Empire

—Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media of Hamburg based Bauer Media Group. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap.

In my research I have discovered that,
the magazine covers are kept constant and what is
meant by this is that the title, colour, font is all
kept constant. The only difference in all the different
issues of the magazine is that there is a different
film advertised on the front cover with usually the
main character placed in the center of the
over to make them stand out in order to grab
the audiences full attention towards the film
being advertised.

Ancillary Research 2

—The second ancillary product I have chosen to create is a Film magazine front cover, featuring the film. When film producing company decides to create a film, a large aspect they research into and take into consideration is advertising the film and to make viewers aware of the upcoming film. This is mainly done through a poster of the film, a trailer and even through magazine front covers or sections within a magazine dedicated to the upcoming film yet to be released. For this reason I have decided to create a front cover for a magazine featuring my film.

the damned

The next poster is from the movie ‘The Damned’. As shown, there is an image of a small child dressed in a way to make the audience realise that this film will have something to do with a horror genre. The poster has a black background with red blurred all around the poster and on top of the child. The red and black colour connotes an evil, scary narrative which perfectly suits the horror genre. A common colour that is used in a horror movie poster is black as it connotes the dark and haunting narrative behind the film, which therefore can help me when creating my poster for m horror film as I will know what colour to use when creating my film poster.
